Healthy beef jerky: 3 reasons why most jerky isn’t healthy

Eating well isn’t easy, and a lack of healthy, convenient snacking options doesn’t help. When it comes to Australia, it is near impossible to find a healthy beef jerky. Here’s 3 reasons why:

1. We can do without the sugar overload

Almost all jerky products contain loads of added sugar. One at our local supermarket had 23.2g of sugar per 100g of product, that’s the same as ice cream!

It makes sense – sugar costs nearly nothing, and meat is expensive. It is cheaper for companies to sell sugar rather than meat. Cheaper, but not better.

We can do without the sugar.

2. We want to eat grass-fed beef

Grass-fed beef is the best choice for a quality jerky product. It is better for you, better for the cows, and better for the environment.

Not only are grass-fed cows raised more ethically and sustainably, grass-fed beef is leaner, and contains more of the fatty acids that are actually good for you, like omega 3s and CLA.

The choice is simple – we want to eat grass-fed beef.

3. Because we want healthy beef jerky, and nothing else

Additives are everywhere in traditional jerky.

There is simply no need to add nitrites, artificial colours and flavours, or anything else you can’t pronounce to make a delicious snack. Given a choice, we’d prefer to keep it simple, and eat jerky that has no added baddies and has been minimally processed.

At KOOEE!, we use only real, whole foods. Our jerky is completely gluten-free, soy-free, and dairy-free. It’s also a paleo beef jerky – so everyone can enjoy this delicious snack.
